Maybe it’s because I’m older, but I prefer the simplicity of sticking with they/them for the gender-neutral option. If I know someone who uses something else, I will try to remember their pronoun choice, but most of the time I can’t even remember people’s names, much less their pronouns.

We need to all agree on a single choice for gender neutral and stick with it. Otherwise it gets too confusing.

Fun fact, there used to be a gender-neutral singular pronoun in the Merriam-Webster dictionary: thon (short for ‘this one/that one’). It was eventually removed due to the lack of use. I kind of like it, but it doesn’t seem to be finding any increase in popularity, so I think we’re stuck with they/them.
